The MGA kicked off MG Awareness Month with our first-ever MG Youth Support Group! It’s easy to think this disease affects mainly adults but as someone who grew up with myasthenia myself, I understand the value this group will have for these kiddos.
Throughout the entire month of June, the MGA will have an activity each day, emphasizing our awareness efforts for myasthenia gravis. Have you seen our awareness calendar? Take a look at some of the activities below and learn about other ways you can participate in MG Awareness Month!
Other Ways to Engage in MG Awareness Month
Let's Get Social
Check out our social media pages! Did you know we have a Facebook group for each support group too? We are also on Instagram, Twitter, and have plenty of community groups you can join. Our social media pages feature people, fun facts, events, and other important information related to all things MGA. Search your social media platforms for us and find all the latest updates there!
Listen Up
Attend one of our webinars or catch up on prior MGA activities by visiting our Youtube channel! When COVID-19 hit, we had to think outside the box and reach our community members in a unique way. As a result, we have kept some of our virtual programmings as we have been able to connect with people near and far. This month we will be hosting a virtual support group focusing on anesthesiology and MG. MGA MAC member Dr. May will be presenting on this topic! Tune in on June 21st.
Flower Power
Did you know that the Gladiolous flowers, or, Sword-Lillies represent strength? As I always tell people, MG is characterized by weakness but we are some of the strongest people you will ever meet! Treat yourself to a bouquet of flowers or plant these in your garden. Apparently, they are easy to grow and perfect for sweet summertime. Honor your strength or somebody else’s in a unique way.
Spoonful of Health
What we consume often plays a part in our we physically feel. Is there a certain recipe that makes you feel at your MG best? Share it with us! Bonus points for those who send in recipes that require a spoon for us spoonies!
Spread the Love
Do you know someone living with MG? June is the perfect month to reach out to someone living with this diagnosis. There is no greater form of awareness than showing someone with MG that you recognize what they are going through and that you appreciate them in spite of this disease. Call, text, email, direct message them…whatever you decide, a few words of encouragement can go a long way.
Happy Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month, everybody!
