Friday Feature: Roger & Jan Huff

Did you know that April is National Volunteer Month? We have some pretty amazing volunteers running support groups, planning events, and helping with administrative tasks. Truthfully, we like to celebrate the work volunteers do all year! In today's Friday Feature, we want to feature Roger and Jan Huff who lead our Northwest Arkansas Support Group.

Tell us about Roger and Jan Huff.

Well Roger and Jan have been a ‘thing’ for more that 40 years. Jan was born in Lancaster, California. Jan has 3 brothers. Roger discovered America in Butler, Missouri Roger is a “spoiled” only child. Jan and Roger are both retired nurses.

When were you diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, Roger?

Roger was diagnosed with MG in October 2007 with the start of drooping eyes.

What made you decide to start a support group?

We realized the need for MG patients in Northwest Arkansas to have support available for such a rare diagnosis. The idea came after our first visit to KU Med and a long visit with Amy Elhers, the former Program Coordinator for the MGA.

What is the best part of running a support group?

It seems that helping those struggling with MG always helps and encourages us as well.

Anything else you’d like the community to know?

We are always available to answer questions, discuss and listen to others that are diagnosed with MG.

Thank you Roger and Jan for all your work with the Northwest Arkansas Support Group. As well as a special shout out to all of our volunteer support group leaders!
