A Taste of the Holidays: Festive Recipes Shared by our MGA Members

The holiday season is a time for togetherness, warmth, and of course—delicious food! This collection of recipes, shared by members of the Myasthenia Gravis Association, is filled with dishes that bring comfort and joy to the table. Whether you're hosting a holiday gathering, preparing a cozy meal for your family, or simply looking for festive inspiration, these recipes are sure to add a special touch to your celebrations. Main Dishes

Chicken Cordon Blue Casserole

Ingredients

1 whole cooked chicken, shredded (5-6c.)

1/2lb. thinly sliced ham, chopped

1/4 lb. thinly sliced Swiss cheese

Sauce

4 T. Butter

4 T. Flour

3 c. milk

2T lemon juice

1 T. Dijon mustard

3/4 t. sea salt

1/2 t. smoked paprika

3/4 t. white pepper

Topping

4 T. butter, melted

1/2 t. seasoning salt

1 1/2 t. dried parsley

1 1/2 c. panko breadcrumbs

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter 1 9x13 baking dish. In dish, layer chicken, then ham, then cheese. Meanwhile, melt butter in a large saucepan. Add flour and whisk until combined. Cook roux 3-5 minutes, or until bubbly, thin and golden. Slowly add milk, bring to a simmer. Simmer over medium heat until sauce thickens (about 10 minutes). Stir in lemon juice, mustard, salt, pepper, and paprika. Pour sauce over chicken mixture.

In a small mixing bowl, mix breadcrumbs and spices, then add melted butter. Sprinkle over casserole. Bake about 45 minutes or until breadcrumbs are golden and sauce is bubbly.


Grandma McCreedy’s Spaghetti

Ingredients

1 lb. hamburger

1 large, chopped onion

1/8 teas chopped garlic

2 T dried parsley

dash of Italian seasoning

dash of salt and pepper

2 large cans of tomato sauce

1 can of tomato paste

season with garlic salt

Directions

Brown hamburger and drain. Cook onion and garlic in oil. Add other ingredients. Simmer covered for at least 1 hour.  Stir occasionally until thickened. It will be very thick. Serve over cooked spaghetti.


Appetizers and Sides

Grandma McCreedy’s Mustard bread

Ingredients

1 15 in loaf French Bread

6 T. Butter

1/2 cup green onions and tops, chopped

2 T parsley

2 T. Mustard

2 T. Seasame seeds or poppy seeds

Directions

Cream butter. Blend in onions and parsley.  Split loaf the long way.  Spread with butter mixture. Spread with mustard and top with seeds. Cut bread diagonally in 1 1/2 inch. slices not quite through the crust. Preheat oven to 350 and bake for about 12 minutes or until lightly browned.


Spinach Artichoke Dip

Ingredients

1 8oz Pkg Cream Cheeze

1 C. Mayonnaise

1/4 C. Onions diced

1 Pkg Frozen Spinach (Drain Well)

1 Can Artichoke Hearts or Bottoms (Drained and Cut Up)

1 Pkg Shredded Parmesan

Directions

Mix all ingredients and bake 375° 30 to 40 minutes.


Dessert

Streusel 

Ingredients

Dough 

4 C. Flour 

1 pkg Active Dry Yeast

1 Lb (4 sticks) butter room temp

 8 oz Sour Cream

 3 Egg Yolks

Streusel Topping   

1 Tbsp Almond Extract

1/4 C. to 1/2 C. Butter

1/2 C. Flour

3/4 C. Sugar

Filling   

1 Can Pie Filling (Cherry, Apple, Blueberry....etc)

2 Tbsp butter

2 Tbsp Sugar

2 Tbsp Brown Sugar

1 Tsp Cinnamon

1 Tsp Almond Extract

Icing Drizzle 

1/2 C. Powdered Sugar

1/2 Tsp Almond Extract

1/4 Tsp or less Water 

Directions

Mix Yeast with Sour Cream and Egg Yolks. Set aside.

Cut Butter into Flour. Add Sour Cream Mixture and mix until dough forms. (Soft Ball.)

Form into 4 balls. Roll each ball into rectangular shapes long and wide enough to fill half a baking sheet when sides are folded after filling.

Place on baking sheet. Fill will desired fruit filling. Sprinkle Sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, almond extract and butter on top. Fold sides over filling and then top and bottom on already folded sides.

Sprinkle Streusel on top.

Secure with aluminum foil up middle of baking sheet so it doesn't move when baking. 

Bake 375° for 25 to 30 minutes.

Remove from oven and cool completely.

Drizzle with Icing.
