MGA Feature Friday: Catherine Singleton

You may have seen a new face on our social media recently, and we are so excited to welcome her into the MGA family. Meet Catherine. Catherine will be taking over the Patient Care Specialist role within the Kansas City area and we are thrilled to have her on the team!

Please give a warm welcome to Catherine:

What is your name and where are you from?

CS: My name is Catherine Singleton. I am originally from Joplin, MO, however; I've lived in Overland Park, KS for the last 16 years.

Would you mind telling us a little bit about yourself?

CS: I was raised in the country on a horse ranch, south of Joplin, MO. I grew up riding horses, picking wild blackberries, and going on endless nature walks/adventures. Shortly after college, I started working for American Cancer Society in 7 different counties throughout Missouri & Kansas. As my family migrated to Kansas City, I followed with a job at March of Dimes. I am a mom to four wonderful & energetic kiddos and have spent the last 10 years staying at home with my kids, volunteering at Junior League of Kansas City, and participating in my church group, Building Better Moms. I am a certified yoga teacher and student, so when I’m not working at MGA you can most likely find me on a mat.

What will be your role in the MG community and what are you looking forward to?

CS: I will be the newest Patient Care Specialist. I look forward to connecting with patients and care providers as they navigate the treatment journey that may help them continue to live their best lives. I’d love to also start a yoga support group for caregivers and MG patients.

How did you hear about the Myasthenia Gravis Association and had you ever heard of the disease, myasthenia gravis?

CS: I met Allison, Executive Director of MGA, 15 years ago in a philanthropic educational organization. Through Allison was my first experience of hearing about the disease. I also was able to learn about the struggles of those diagnosed with this rare disorder from the medical professionals within my family- my father, an ENT physician and my mother, a Nurse Practitioner.

What drove you to further learn about the MGA and the open position?

CS: I feel great about becoming a part of an organization that educates the general public and coordinates so seamlessly with healthcare providers to spread the word about MG. This work is vitally important because it could mean that patients are diagnosed more quickly and accurately.

Thanks for sharing, Catherine. We can't wait to further the MGA mission with you! MGA community members- say hello to Catherine as she will be the newest face in our KC clinics!
